The call for applications for Science&You training, entitled " Outreach Marathon" for French-speaking PhD students from all disciplines, closed on May the 28th, 2021 and was a real national, as well as international, success.
More than 300 PhD students have registered on the platform dedicated to Science & You training, a figure which exceeds expectations in this period of health crisis and which demonstrates a keen interest for scientific outreach and the problematic relations between research and society.
PhD students from different disciplines (sociology, computer science, biology, ecology or literature) will learn about science popularization by explaining a researcher from the Université de Lorraine’s studies through a creative practice of mediation.
The 56 students selected to participate in the 15 hours workshops will have the choice between 7 creative disciplines: Tales and Comic Strips Drawing are the workshops that were most requested in first choice. Live Escape Game, Contemporary Theater and Object Theater are closely followed by Dance and Puppet Theatre. These workshops will be led by duos, assembled especially for the occasion, composed of an artist and a SciComm professional.
The call for applications was addressed to French-speaking PhD students, but, if 42% of candidates are French, the international dimension of Science&You has attracted students from 40 different countries including Belgium (14.6%), Cameroon (4.3 %), Senegal, Switzerland, Morocco, Haiti and Algeria.
At the end of the Outreach Marathon, PhD students will be invited to continue their training by attending the scientific and technical culture conference "Hubert Curien Days" at the Robert Schuman congress center in Metz.
