Now open: registration for the conference and call for applications for the PhD workshops

Date:
16/04/21

A highlight of Science & You, the "Hubert Curien Days" symposium, which will take place in Metz from 16 to 19 November 2021, encourages discussions between professionals involved in scientific, technical and industrial outreach, communication and culture. This year, the conference will explore the link between science and citizens, as well as the role that outreach practitioners have to play.

As for the PhD workshops, these are aimed at better training young researchers in scientific outreach so as to open up their minds to the contributions between research and society, their implications and their audiences.

From 15 April, registration for the Science & You conference and the call for applications for the PhD workshops (FR) will be open.

Registration now open for the “Hubert Curien Days” conference

After the success of the call for papers, the Science&You international scientific committee has selected 198 papers, 32 discussion panels, 12 symposia and 20 posters. Discussions on the theme of "Science communication: take a step back to move forward" will thus be held between the representatives of 44 different countries, including France, Germany, Canada, the UK, the US, Brazil, Italy, Portugal, China and Georgia.

Over the four days of the conference, 9 slots and 10 parallel sessions will be set aside for the discussions led by the science outreach practitioners and researchers selected. All of these contributions will be in French or English, and the plenary sessions translated.

In addition to the 5 keynotes already announced: Gérald Bronner and Michel Dubois (France), Peter Weingart (Germany), Gordon Gauchat (United States) and Kyoko Sato (United States/Japan), 5 plenary roundtable sessions will be organised:

  • Public attitudes to science: long-term outlook
  • Scientific journalism in crisis
  • Artificial intelligence and science communication
  • Overcoming Covid-19 with museums and science centres
  • Science communication: what benefits for researchers and outreach practitioners?

Registration for the conference has been open since 15 April 2021. It will be held in Metz from 16 to 19 November 2021.

The call for applications is now open for the PhD workshops: Outreach Marathon

The Science & You workshop takes the form of an outreach marathon, offering 15 hours’ worth of workshops supervised by duos of one creative leader paired up with one outreach leader, both working towards the same goal: to make research accessible to the mainstream and raise researchers’ awareness of the importance of engaging with the public. The workshop is also a forum for meetings and discussions between young researchers from all backgrounds. The PhD students will be welcomed ahead of the conference to be trained in different outreach practices: comic strips, contemporary theatre, dance, object theatre, puppets, escape game or tales.

All French-speaking PhD students may apply to this call, irrespective of their field of research, nationality or experience in scientific outreach. At the end of the call for participants, 56 young researchers will be selected to take part in the workshop. The selection criteria are diversity and motivation to participate.

The call for applications is open from 15 April until 28 May 2021. 14 places will be reserved for PhD students from Université de Lorraine. The workshops will be held in Metz from 14 to 16 November 2021.
